Franklin Lakes
About Franklin Lakes...
Quiet country living is the hallmark of this lovely community. Most of its one acre building lots are substantially wooded, and many are situated on or near the shores of the 21 magnificent lakes that grace its countryside. Full recreational and social organizations offer each and every family a wide choice of participation in community affairs. There is also a semiprivate golf and country club, two exceptionally beautiful private communities which offer club plan memberships, and the famous Audubon Wildlife Center. Neighborhood stores plus two large shopping centers provide quick and easy shopping for the town’s residents. Six public schools provide the most up-to-date curriculums. Just minutes from major highways and New York City, Franklin Lakes provides the best of many worlds.
Social activity in town runs a vast gamut. The town offers two private clubs--the Indian Trail Club and the Shadow Lake Club. Members are offered swimming, tennis, boating and fishing, although no power boats are permitted on either Franklin or Shadow Lake. The High Mountain Golf Club, a semi-private club, offers a lush and challenging terrain. The town’s tennis courts challenge both the expert and the weekend whacker. In addition there is a very active Recreation Committee in town that not only organizes children’s sports, including soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, tennis and football, but also adult recreational sports. Only a short drive down Campgaw Road takes skiers, both novice and intermediate, to the county’ s Campgaw Ski Center. The youngsters of Franklin Lakes are serviced by Public and Parochial schools . Education has always been a high priority for Franklin Lakes and its residents continue to play a large part in its planning by taking part in the many parent/teacher organizations.
With a population of approximately 10,000, our town is governed by a mayor and council form of government. Water is supplied by private wells and the United Water Company; Electric by Rockland County Electric and Gas by Public Service Electric & Gas Company. Our Police Department is served by 20 full time officers and 4 Civilian Dispatchers. Franklin Lakes is home to many houses of worship.
